Show Description: Jayne is a cautious, timid woman who lives with her son, Josh, and has been working at a stationery shop for many years. She eats her lunch in the same park every day. One day she encounters Douglas, who claims he is being stalked by an ex-girlfriend, Natasha. Douglas is full of wild stories and then Natasha appears. Both Douglas and Natasha have "alter egos" whom we meet with hilarious results.
Characters:
-
Jayne (Female, 40s–50s) A quiet, unassuming stationery shop employee who has lived a "small" life. She is polite, slightly lonely, and possessed of a gentle, romantic imagination. The play follows her awakening as she is drawn out of her shell by Douglas’s eccentric energy.
-
Douglas / Marcello / Cyril (Male, 40s–50s) A whirlwind of theatrical energy. Douglas is an impulsive, charismatic, and potentially delusional storyteller who approaches life like a grand drama.
-
Natasha / Penelope / Andrea (Female, 30s–50s) The "shadow" to Douglas’s light. As Natasha, she is mysterious, sharp-edged, and perhaps a bit dangerous—a classic noir-style antagonist.
-
Josh (Male, 20s) Jayne’s son. He is the "voice of reason"—practical, protective, and a bit exasperated by his mother’s sudden interest in a stranger from the park.
All roles are available. You should be prepared for cold readings from the script.
Headshots and resumes are accepted but are not required.
