The story centers around a young writer, aspiring writer, Jack Beck, who arrives at The Algonquin Hotel hoping to join the famous literary circle. He's captivated by the wit and camaraderie of figures like Dorothy Parker, Paul Robeson, and Alexander Woollcott. A central conflict arises when Jack disrupts the group's weekly card game and finds himself unexpectedly drawn to the waitress, Sally. The play explores themes of ambition, belonging, and the clash between earnestness and sharp wit.
