Sam Shepard’s True West, a finalist for the 1983 Pulitzer Prize for drama, is a bleak look at familial relationships as well as the fallibility of the American Dream. In it, we meet Austin and Lee. Brothers who are obviously jealous of the life the other has. Both are desperate in their own way. The funny, sad, and serious ways this relationship breaks down start with a screenplay and end with dead plants and toast.
