LVLT announces open auditions for “The Shark is Broken” by Ian Shaw
Directed by Joe Hynes
Disclaimer: LVLT does NOT pay - We are an entirely volunteer organization!
Audition Dates and Times: In-person auditions will take place on Monday, August 18 & Tuesday, August 19 @7pm.
Location: Las Vegas Little Theatre 3920 Schiff Dr. Las Vegas, NV, 89103
Performance Dates: October 17 – November 2, 2025 with performances on Fridays and Saturdays at 7pm and Saturdays and Sundays at 2pm.
Show Description: In 1974, the filming of Jaws was under way. The film's three lead actors — Robert Shaw, Richard Dreyfuss and Roy Scheider — are stuck together on the boat Orca because Bruce, the mechanical shark used in the film, is broken. Filming has consequently been stalled for several days, turning into weeks. The Shark Is Broken explores the three actors' boredom, arguments, and stories told aboard the boat during the delay.
All roles are available. We are looking for actors to embody the people, not caricatures.
Robert Shaw:
A seasoned, hard-drinking British actor, known for his Shakespearean background and gruff exterior. He's portrayed as a man's man, a "modern poet-warrior" who can be both tough and sensitive, and is also a father figure to the younger actors.
Richard Dreyfuss:
A younger, insecure actor who is struggling with his ego and self-doubt while trying to make his mark in Hollywood. He is portrayed as sensitive, whiny, and prone to insecurity, despite his burgeoning talent.
Roy Scheider:
The most even-tempered of the three, he's presented as someone who just wants to relax and work on his tan, but who also has his own internal struggles.
**Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script.**
Headshots and resumes are accepted but are not required.
