LVLT announces open auditions for “The Miracle Worker” by William Gibson

Audition Dates: In-person auditions will take place on Monday, July 17 and Tuesday, July 18 at 6:30 pm
Location: Las Vegas Little Theatre 3920 Schiff Dr. Las Vegas, NV, 89103
Performance Dates: September 8 – 24, 2023 live on the main stage

Show Description: The Miracle Worker dramatizes the true story of Helen Keller, a girl from Alabama who was blind and deaf, and Anne Sullivan, the woman who taught her language. It is a love letter to the teachers who never give up, even when their students seem beyond reach. The Kellers learn that Helen is capable of more than they ever dared to imagine. And Anne, in the midst of fighting for Helen to have a better life, learns to love again.
All roles are available.
Helen Keller: Female, 8-14
Became blind and deaf as an infant, she can be violent, involved in intense physical scenes.
Annie Sullivan: Female, 20
Helen’s teacher, fierce and determined, haunted by her past, involved in intense physical scenes.
Captain Keller: Male, 40’s-50’s
Helen’s father, a former Confederate Army Captain, is stern but devoted to his family, especially to his wife Kate, also father to older son James from a previous marriage.
Kate Keller: Female, 20’s-30’s
Helen’s loving and devoted mother, believes in Helen, younger second wife of Captain Keller, also the mother of a newborn baby girl, Mildred.
James Keller: Male, 18-early 20’s
Helen’s half-brother, oldest child of Captain Keller, painfully distant from his father, is hurt and snide, believes Helen belongs in an institution.
Aunt Ev: Female, 40’s – 50’s
Helen’s aunt, she is talkative, opinionated, an advocate to continue to search for help for Helen.
Viney: Female, Age flexible
Servant/house maid to the Keller family, funny, knows the family very well
Doctor / Dr. Anagnos: Male, 50’s – 70’s
At the beginning of the play a doctor checking in on Helen as a baby / Head of the Perkins Institute who sends Annie Sullivan to her first job, cares a great deal for Annie but also knows what kind of trouble she can be.
Children: Martha, Percy, Blind Girls: 8-15
Young servants, playmates of Helen’s, girls at the Institute who love Annie
**Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script.**
